For individuals with mental or emotional disabilities, the unique relationship formed with the horse can lead to increased confidence, patience and self-esteem.
The sense of independence found on horseback benefits all who ride. The therapeutic qualities of horseback riding are recognized by many medical professionals, including the American Physical Therapy Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Riding a Horse requires the application of Balance, Coordination, Forethought, Empathy and the control of one's emotions!! Advancing as a rider is a matter of developing and improving in all these areas!!
Another horseback riding benefit is of course calorie loss!!!
A person weighing 63 Kilos riding a horse that's walking will burn about 2 calories a minute. The same person on a trotting horse burns 6 calories per minute, and galloping would burn 8 calories a minute. (Incidentally, even grooming a horse helps you lose unwanted fat a 63 Kilo person burns 6 calories each minute tending their equestrian ride.)
If you have trouble tolerating pressure or stress on your joints, if you have restricted aerobic capacity, or if you need to keep your heart rate lower than a certain level, consider horseback riding as an excellent form of physical fitness that's also fun and relaxing.
Here at ALPHA we provide you with a safe environment for yourself or your kids to learn to ride and have lots of Fun!!!
